The UK Department for International Development (DFID) is the sponsor of the scholarship, which aims to support international development in the UK. Commonwealth Scholarships are available to students from poor nations who would not otherwise be able to pursue master's or doctoral studies in the UK.
Eligibility for Commonwealth Scholarship at Cranfield University:
- The candidate must be a British Protected Person, a citizen of one of the eligible Commonwealth nations, or have been given refugee status by one of those nations.
- The applicant must be a permanent resident of a Commonwealth nation.
- By the beginning of the UK academic year in September or October of the following year, the applicant must be eligible to begin academic studies in the UK.
- Ph.D. applicants must have the backing of a possible supervisor from at least one UK university listed in their application form.
- The applicant should be unable to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship.

Application Process:
The candidate must fill out an online application form at the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission website to apply for the scholarship. CSC is in charge of managing the application process; it receives and evaluates applications. Applications have to be submitted online using the CSC application system. Applicants must first apply to one of the nominating organizations; direct applications for these scholarships are not accepted by the CSC.
