Rhodes University Hobart Houghton Fellowship 2024

The Hobart Houghton Research Fellowship is named after Professor Desmond Hobart Houghton. During his forty years at Rhodes, Hobart Houghton made substantial contributions to thinking about South Africa's economic difficulties as a whole, but his primary concern, and the focus of his research, was the challenge of poverty and economic development in the Eastern Cape. Former students and associates of Hobart Houghton, as well as the Liberty Life Educational Foundation, have donated funds to establish the Fellowship.

Eligibility for Rhodes University Hobart Houghton Fellowship:

• Applicants must have had research experience and hold at least a Master’s degree in Economics.
• They should have a sound knowledge of economic analysis and be capable of independent, innovative work.
• Candidates may either be established scholars (possibly on sabbatical leave) or young, promising economists with a strong developing research track record.

• A monthly cash stipend
• If the candidate accepts the appointment for at least four months and is accompanied by a partner, the companion's return airfare will be covered.
