Fay Marles Scholarship 2024

The Fay Marles scholarship is awarded to research students of Australian Indigenous heritage or those who are facing extraordinary or compassionate circumstances. It is named after the late former Chancellor, Ms. Fay Marles, in honor of her steadfast dedication to social justice and human rights.

Eligibility for the Fay Marles Scholarship:

• Applicant citizens must be either permanent residents of Australia or citizens of New Zealand.
• As well as being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, candidates should identify as such, be accepted as such by the community in which they currently reside or have previously lived, and/or be going through compassionate or compelling circumstances (e.g. illness, a disability, carers responsibilities or personal hardship).
• Students must be enrolled in the University of Melbourne's graduate research program or have received an offer for one.

Applicvation Process:

The candidate has to fill out an online application form to apply for this scholarship.

Selection criteria:

Candidates with the highest rating based on their past academic performance, research potential, and disadvantage encountered are awarded this fellowship. Preference is given to starting students who have not already completed a research qualification at the same or higher level than the degree for which a scholarship is requested, and existing students who have at least 12 months (full-time equivalent) of candidature left.

Benefits:

• Living allowance of $37,000 per year pro rata (2024 full-time study rate)
• Relocation grant of $2,000 for students moving from States or Territories other than Victoria or $3,000 for students moving from outside Australia.
