Leverhulme Doctoral Training Programme 2025-26

• The University of Essex is offering seven PhD research scholarships under the Sustainable Transitions doctoral training programme for Home/UK applicants.
• This programme is focused on the interdisciplinary research required to address global environmental sustainability challenges, combining natural and social sciences expertise.

PhD Scholarships Include:

• Full PhD Scholarship: Covers tuition fees and provides a living costs stipend.
• Tuition Fee Waiver for Home students.
• Living Costs Stipend at the UK Research and Innovation recommended level (for 2024-25, the stipend is £19,237; 2025-26 stipend is to be confirmed).
• Research Allowance of £10,000 (for research costs like supplies, equipment, and fieldwork).
• Additional Training Support: PhD students benefit from the Proficio funding, offering up to £2,500 for additional training and conference participation.

Research Focus:

• The programme addresses the need for interdisciplinary research in sustainable transitions across sectors like production, business, agriculture, energy use, and conservation.
• Each research project will be supervised by experts from two of the above disciplines.

This scholarship scheme is open to Home/UK applicants.
