University of Essex Disabled Student's Allowance (DSA) Laptop Contribution Fund 2024-25

• The University offers a £200 contribution towards the cost of laptops for students with disabilities who need one for their studies and have a low household income.
• This fund is a reimbursement scheme, meaning payment will be made only after the purchase.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Current full-time or part-time student at the University of Essex.
• Home fee-paying student, ordinarily resident in the UK (overseas students are not eligible).
• Must have undertaken a Study Needs Assessment (SNA) and not previously claimed a laptop reimbursement.
• The recommended laptop must be purchased through the approved supplier and outlined in the DSA approval letter.
• Annual household income of up to £25,000, as assessed by Student
• Finance or other UK student funding providers.

Ineligible Students:

• Overseas fee-paying students.
• Students not in attendance or on assessment-only programmes.
• Sponsored students (e.g., employer-sponsored courses).
• Distance learning students.
• Part-time, short course, or students studying through a University of
• Essex Partner (e.g., Kaplan, Tavistock).
• Students on Higher/Degree Apprenticeships.

Required Evidence:

• Invoice/receipt for the laptop purchase.
• DSA eligibility letter showing equipment recommendations.
• Student Finance England notification letter or equivalent reference.
• Household income evidence (e.g., P60 or Statement of Earnings from HMRC).
• If household income is zero or if an emergency tax code is applied, a Statement of Earnings is required instead of the P60.

Payment Details:

• Payments are made via BACS to the nominated bank account.
  £200 contribution will be paid within 7 working days of application assessment.
