Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants can be of any nationality.
- Applicants must be full-time faculty members who have not yet reached the rank of Associate Professor.
- Applicants must be faculty members of the surgical specialty-related discipline.
- Applicants must have active membership in the Association for Academic Surgery.
- Applicants holding a career development type of award are ineligible.
- Applicants must not be principal investigators on an NIH R01 or a VA Merit Review Grant.
Application Process:
All eligible candidates must complete and submit the online application to be considered for the scholarship. The application should include the following components:
- Cover Letter (one page)
- NIH-style Biosketch (five pages)
- Comprehensive Research Plan (five pages)
- Budget (one page) – Brief budget justification. Must include 10% use for travel
- Letter from Sponsoring Research Mentor (max. two pages)
- Letter of Support from the Chair of your Department (max two pages) – The letter should also state that the award will not be used for salary support for the recipient.
Value of the Award:
The successful candidates will receive $50,000 for one year, which can be used exclusively for direct-cost expenditures related to the proposed research project.
NOTE: This award cannot be used for salary support.
