- The applicants for SMU Overseas Ph.D. Scholarships should be citizens of Singapore.
- The candidates should have an outstanding academic record and should show high proficiency and motivation.

- The candidates should have bachelor's degrees in Mathematics, Statistics, Business, Accountancy, Engineering, Economics, Social Science, Computer Science, and Engineering.

- The applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, academic transcripts, and names and e-mail addresses of three referees familiar with the applicant's education/work.
