Research Foundation - Flanders PhD Fellowship Strategic Basic Research 2024

The Research Foundation - Flanders is offering PhD fellowship to research in strategic basic research to improve critical and strategic thinking and innovation-oriented science. This grant is awarded to conduct challenging and innovative research at the Ph.D. level which will lead to these applications with economic added value.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Applicant must be affiliated with a University in the Flemish Community.
• Applicant must hold a degree that is equivalent to a Master's degree and has been awarded by the competent institutions of one of the countries of the EEA or Switzerland.
• Applicants having a degree certificate issued outside the EEA and Switzerland can have their degree declared equivalent to the Flemish Master's level by NARIC or provide the FWO with a declaration. 
• Applicant must have obtained the Master's degree or equivalent no later than three years before the final submission date of the call.
• At the deadline, the applicant will have reached a maximum of 18 months of academic seniority.
• Applicants can only apply twice for a PhD fellowship.
• The applicant has to agree to the scientific integrity clause.

Application Process:

• Interested candidates must first find a promotor at a university in the Flemish Community.
• The candidates then must submit an FWO Online application form.
• The candidates must obtain a Letter of Recommendation from the supervisor.
• Shortlisted candidates are invited for the interview.

Value of the Fellowship:

• Selected candidates are awarded EUR 2,460 per month.
• Fixed bench fee of EUR 3,720 per year.
