PhD Research Project: Artificial Intelligence for Building Energy Systems
- The Artificial Intelligence for Building Energy Systems PhD research project, led by Prof. Ben Hughes at the Energy Institute, is focused on optimizing HVAC systems in buildings through advanced AI tools.
- The project seeks to address the ongoing energy inefficiencies in buildings, where HVAC systems account for 60-70% of energy usage, despite technological advancements.
- The goal is to develop a novel AI-based control system that dynamically manages energy use to maintain thermal comfort and reduce consumption in commercial buildings.
Eligibility
- To apply for the Artificial Intelligence for Building Energy Systems PhD project, applicants should have a first-class degree or a strong 2:1 (or equivalent) in Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Ideal candidates will have experience in building energy systems, proficiency in programming (e.g., Python, Matlab), and skills in high-level modeling environments (e.g., Ansys CFD).
- Applicants should also have relevant analytical abilities and a keen interest in AI and energy systems.
Application Process
- Applications for the Artificial Intelligence for Building Energy Systems PhD project should be sent directly to Prof. Ben Hughes at Ben.Hughes@sheffield.ac.uk.
- Applicants must include their CV and express their interest in the project.
- The position is open for candidates to start in September 2024, with an application deadline of May 1, 2025.
- Given that the position will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is found, early applications are encouraged.
Benefits/Value
