    The University of Michigan is offering scholarships to faculty members of African universities and colleges.

    Eligibility Criteria :

    • The applicants must be African nationals.
    • The applicants must be early career faculty members with less than ten years of experience.
    • The applicants must currently be teaching in a college or university in Africa.
    • The applicants are required to hold a current position within an African university or college.
    • The applicants must receive an endorsement from their home university.
    • The applicants must remain in residence for five months.

    Application Process:

    • All eligible candidates must apply online to be considered for the scholarship.
    • Candidates from outside Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Uganda, and Zambia, need to be nominated. 
      • It needs to be completed by a U-M faculty member familiar with the work of the prospective applicant.

         Direct Applicants must include the following components in their application:

      • Curriculum vitae
      • Scholarly program/research proposal (max. five pages).
      • Provide the complete name and contact information of the department head, dean, or vice chancellor at the applicant’s home institution who will be writing their letter of support.
        • This must be submitted before applicants can fully submit and complete their online application.

         Nomination Candidates must include the following components in their application:

      • Completed online nomination form (for University of Michigan faculty only, and access requires a U-M login)
      • A letter of endorsement that indicates their willingness to serve as a mentor during the length of the residency.

    Value of the Scholarship:

    The successful candidates will be awarded the following benefits:

    • Five months of residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, paired with a faculty collaborator with full access to the university’s resources,
    • Round-trip airfare from their home country to Ann Arbor, Michigan,
    • Free housing (private room & bath in a suite setting),
    • Medical insurance, a research allowance,
    • A modest stipend to cover living,
    • Office/Laboratory space,
    • Opportunity to present research to the U-M community.
