Naef Scholarship Program at Seattle University

• The Naef Scholarship Program at Seattle University is designed to support and enrich rising juniors and seniors who are committed to social justice.
• This program is made possible by an endowment gift from the estate of Sue M. Naef (+1982) and aims to recognize and empower outstanding students from diverse backgrounds.
• The scholarship provides need-based awards of $3,000 or $4,500 and fosters a community of peer engagement, where students engage in meaningful conversations about social justice and their communities.

Qualifications

To be eligible for the Naef Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Be committed to social justice and demonstrate leadership in this area.
• Make a binding commitment to participate in the Naef Scholars Program.
• Have completed at least 90 credit hours before the Fall Quarter of 2025 (including transfer credits).
• Have a Seattle University GPA of 3.4 or higher.
• Intend to enroll as a full-time student (45 credits) during the 2025–2026 academic year.
• Have not been a Naef Scholar for more than two years.
• Be neither a Sullivan Scholar nor a fifth-year senior.
• Be enrolled in a non-College of Science and Engineering program, as the Bannan Scholarship Program serves a similar purpose for students in this college.
• Students who receive full tuition or financial aid that covers their financial need may not be eligible for additional scholarship funding.

Application Materials

To apply for the Naef Scholarship, applicants must submit the following materials:

• Application form: Download, complete, and sign the application form.
• Personal statement: Write a one-page, single-spaced statement explaining why you are a good fit for the Naef Scholarship program.
• Focus on your life experiences, academic work, and leadership in social justice.
• Highlight how these have shaped who you are and your intended impact on the communities you belong to.
• Resume: Provide a one-page resume detailing your non-academic activities, including work, extracurricular involvement, personal commitments, activism, hobbies, and athletics.
• Transcript: Submit an official transcript from your Seattle University Online account, including winter 2025 grades.
