Overview

• The Common Good Scholarships provide essential financial support to undergraduate home (Scottish) students who have faced significant challenges, both financially and otherwise.
• This includes students who are estranged from their families or have care experience.
• These scholarships are supported by generous donors, including Sir Alex Ferguson CBE, and aim to ensure that talented students from all backgrounds have access to a university education.

Scholarship Details

• Annual Payment: £1,500 per year for the duration of the 4-year undergraduate degree (a total of £6,000).
• Additional Support: Scholarship recipients will also receive support with graduation costs upon completing their degree.

Eligibility

• Home (Scottish) students starting their first year in September 2025.
  Priority will be given to students who have faced significant challenges, including those who are estranged from family or have care experience.
• Open to candidates from all academic programmes at GCU, though there are some subject-specific scholarships, including:
  • Robert and Jeanne Mairs Charitable Trust – Social Work
  • Incorporation of Hammerman – Engineering
• Candidates will be required to complete an online application form and may also be asked to attend an interview.

Selection Criteria

• The scholarship will be awarded based on the following:
• Financial need.
• Merit.
• Motivational reasons for choosing your course and pursuing higher education.
