With great pleasure, the US Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) announces the 2025–2026 academic year Fulbright Foreign Student Program competition for the Visiting Student Researcher category. Grants (financial support) are given to participants in this program so they can work full-time, non-degree academic research in their field of study at graduate schools in the United States for a minimum of four months, which is usually an academic semester, and a maximum of nine months, which is usually a U.S. academic year. Only applications under the category of visiting student researcher are being accepted.
Eligibility for Fulbright Foreign Student Program for citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina:
- To be eligible to hold a valid BiH passport, the applicant must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident of BiH.
- At the time of application, the candidate must be enrolled in good standing in an approved PhD program in the intended field of study, whether it be in Bosnia and Herzegovina or abroad.
- The applicant must be enrolled in good standing in a master's program in the intended field of study that has been accredited.
- The applicant must have completed a master's degree in the intended field of study and have sufficient English language ability to carry out the suggested activities and adapt to life in the United States.
- Applicants must be eligible to receive and maintain the exchange visitor J-1 non-immigrant visa required for the program.
- All applicants, even those who want to pursue a career outside of academia, are encouraged to apply.
- Applicants with little to no prior experience, either domestically or abroad are eligible.
- Applicants who have not previously obtained a Fulbright student grant or who have not had significant recent experience in the United States are given precedence.
Application Process:
The online application should include the following components:
- Research objectives statement of proposed activity at a U.S. institution.
- Personal statement.
- Acknowledgment of plagiarism agreement.
- Curriculum vitae.
- Three reference letters.
- Readable copies of all post-secondary academic transcripts and degrees or diplomas awarded.
- Signature form.
- A readable copy of the BiH passport biographical page for the candidate only.
