The Carolyn Irene Howard Memorial Scholarship aims to ease the cost of education for students and graduates from the College of Liberal & Creative Arts who want to change careers and become teachers in the humanities, languages, and literature. Students who are reentering the majors listed below as well as those who are reentering a major for the first time will be qualified.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must not have been enrolled as a student for more than 3 semesters at SF State.
- Eligible courses are Multiple: American Studies, Chinese, Classics, Communication Studies, Comparative and World Literature, Creative Writing, Cultural Anthropology, English, French, German, History, Humanities, International Relations, Italian, Japanese, Jewish Studies, Journalism, Liberal Studies, Museum Studies, Philosophy, and Religion, Technical and Professional Writing, Women and Gender Studies.
- Applicants must be International students pursuing Undergraduate or Graduate at SFSU.
- Students graduating in the spring and summer of 2024 are not eligible.
Value of the Scholarship:
Successful applicants will receive an award of the value of $500

- Applications that do not have the required reference letter by the deadline will not be reviewed and are not eligible for the scholarship.\

Please be sure to inform the individual that you are listing them as a reference provider and provide them context on the scholarship for which you are applying so they can tailor their reference accordingly, and inform them that the letter must be submitted by the application deadline.
